Athletics are a proud part of the Marshall experience - and even more important is the great balance we strike between excellence and access.
More than 85% of Marshall students participate in at least one sport, while seemingly 100% of Hilltoppers support, encourage, and cheer the efforts of the friends, classmates and students on the fields, courts, and rinks. To Marshall, access means not having to worry about being cut - with only a few athletic team exceptions. Marshall teams compete at the varsity level in 24 different MSHSL sports. Most sports offer opportunities at junior high and JV level. On every team, our student athletes learn the life-long skills of teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
But access doesn't happen at the expense of excellence or success. Marshall teams and athletes have advanced to state-competition in recent years in eight different sports, including five recent state championships in dance. Additional life lessons about winning and losing with compassion, integrity, and grace are garnered both at the team and individual level.
