Dear Hilltopper Families, We hope flex week was a time for your child to rest and recharge in preparation for our next 6-week term, which will take us to the Thanksgiving break. Gradebooks in Schoology are now up to date with work submitted through the first term. The grades shown are a snapshot in time and will continue to evolve throughout the semester. Any questions about grades should be directed to your child's teacher or can be discussed at this week's fall conferences, which will take place through Zoom on Wednesday, October 14 and Thursday, October 15. Please see information below about how to sign up. As we return to school, please remember to keep your child home if they are ill. If your family participated in any higher risk activities during flex week, as defined by the CDC, we ask that you closely monitor your child for symptoms and contact the Health Center (healthcenter@marshallschool.org) to report symptoms and for guidance. With a rise in COVID-19 cases in our local community, we will only be able to continue in person learning if we remain vigilant about wearing masks, physical distancing, frequent handwashing, and following guidelines for social activities as recommended by the CDC. Decisions each of us makes affects the entire Hilltopper community. We are grateful for everyone doing their part to keep the community healthy and safe. #ToppersTogether, Karen and Heather FALL PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES Fall conferences are coming up on October 14 and 15. Due to the pandemic, conferences will be done virtually over Zoom. Parents received an email on Monday, October 5, with conference sign-up information. Online registration for conferences began on Tuesday, October 6, at 10:00 a.m. and will remain open until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14. Families will not be able to sign up for conferences after the registration window has closed. Students will have no school on Thursday, October 15 and Friday, October 16 to accommodate parent-teacher conferences. PICTURE DAY Picture Day will be Monday, October 12, which is the day students will return to school after Flex Week. For health and safety reasons, all payments for school pictures must be made online. Please visit mylifetouch.com to select packages and pre-pay for school pictures. Use Picture Day ID EVTCCH9GJ. UPPER SCHOOL TESTING DAY - OCTOBER 14 Families should have received an email last week regarding Testing Day for upper school students. On Wednesday, October 14, 2020, ninth, tenth and eleventh graders will participate in Testing Day, taking practice standardized tests to prepare them for the SAT and ACT. Because of the challenges associated with maintaining focus, attention, and engagement after a morning of standardized tests, students will not have academic classes following their tests. They will be released for the day at the conclusion of testing around 12:30 pm. The goal for this day is to give students essential experience in standardized testing, a key component for many in the college admissions process, while avoiding academic overload. Health and safety precautions will remain in effect for testing day. Students will be physically distanced in their testing rooms and will remain masked for the entire testing session. Seniors do NOT have school this day. Some seniors have signed up to take an SAT test on campus during this time. No additional sign ups will be allowed. Seniors who are not testing have been encouraged to work on their college applications over the long weekend. If your child is absent this day, please report their absence to the attendance line 218-727-7266 x199 or email attendance@marshallschool.org. Make up tests will not be available for absent students. SECOND 6-WEEK SCHEDULE The schedule for our second 6-week segment is below. This schedule reflects in-person learning. If we need to pivot due to COVID-19 rates in our school/community, we will send updates to families. CONFIRMED CLOSE CONTACT OR POSITIVE COVID-19 TEST RESULT If your child has been exposed to COVID-19 or had a positive test result, immediately contact healthcenter@marshallschool.org. - According to MDH guidelines, anyone with known exposure to COVID-19 should quarantine for 14 days from the date of exposure.
