Dear Hilltopper Families,
FALL PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES Fall conferences are coming up on October 14 and 15. Due to the pandemic, conferences will be done virtually over Zoom. Parents will receive an email on Monday, October 5, with conference sign-up information. Online registration for conferences will begin on Tuesday, October 6, at 10:00 a.m. and remain open until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14. Families will not be able to sign up for conferences after the registration window has closed.
OCTOBER 5-9 FLEX WEEK We designed this year's calendar with flexibility and sustainability as two of our guiding principles. We wanted a calendar that would allow us to be responsive to the health of our community, both physically and mentally. The October Flex Week will be a break for students while teachers participate in professional development work to prepare for the next six week term.
The first marking term of the semester ended on Friday, October 2. Assignments for the first marking term (August 25-October 2) were due to teachers by October 2. Teachers will have their gradebooks in Schoology current by the end of the day on Wednesday, October 7. Marshall determines final grades at the end of the semester, so the grade you see in the Schoology will continue to evolve throughout the first semester which ends on January 15.
Picture Day will be Monday, October 12, which is the day students will return to school after Flex Week. For health and safety reasons, all payments for school pictures must be made online. Please visit mylifetouch.com to select packages and pre-pay for school pictures. Use Picture Day ID EVTCCH9GJ.
Families should have received an email last week regarding Testing Day for upper school students. On Wednesday, October 14, 2020, ninth, tenth and eleventh graders will participate in Testing Day, taking practice standardized tests to prepare them for the SAT and ACT. Because of the challenges associated with maintaining focus, attention, and engagement after a morning of standardized tests, students will not have academic classes following their tests. They will be released for the day at the conclusion of testing around 12:30 pm. The goal for this day is to give students essential experience in standardized testing, a key component for many in the college admissions process, while avoiding academic overload.
