One of Marshall's greatest assets is our creative, passionate, and talented faculty. Hilltopper teachers are encouraged to think outside of the box, and social media allows their innovative lesson planning to enrich the greater worldwide educational community. We receive many requests for more information and lesson plans. Enjoy some of our recent viral favorites!
Hero's journey
Students roll the dice to reveal characters, plot twists, and surprises, then weave them into original stories. When time’s up, they share their tales and see where creativity took their classmates!
TABLETOP ANATOMY
Students use chalk markers to make a list identifying anatomy terms from a diagram. When time's up, they jump to another student's list to fill in the missing knowledge!
Chalk Math
Students use sidewalk chalk and tape to map out letters, then calculate their area right on the pavement. When they’re done, they jump to another letter to check the math and compare strategies!
Literary Circles
In a twist on literary engagement, students choose from six different final projects to help retain and experience what they've read about. Each project contains three components: a creative piece, a written piece, and a presentation piece.
My favorite thing about teaching at Marshall is that the small class sizes allow me to give more personalized, detailed, and immediate feedback to students to promote their learning, and creates a sense of belonging and community within the classroom. There is freedom and flexibility to try new and different methodologies or activities in the classroom to engage the students.
