Welcome to Marshall School Library

More than sixty years after the first students arrived at what is now the Marshall School, a Library Initiative was started to renovate our Library. Thanks to the generosity of many people, renovations started and in October of 1999 our new refreshed library was launched. Hundreds of new resources were added. The library also received new carpeting, new furniture and new windows and doors.

When Fred and Mary Lewis visited the Duluth Art Institute in May 2002 to see a collection of watercolors by the late Julia Marshall, they decided to try to keep the collection of 26 watercolors together. They purchased the entire collection and decided to donate it to the Marshall School.

Today, the Julia Marshall watercolor collection, which contains images of isle Royal, Duluth and the Brule River, hangs in the, appropriately named, Julia Marshall Room of the Marshall School Library.

In December 2004, the Marshall School in recognition of Fred and Mary Lewis’ generosity and commitment to the arts and education, named the library the Fred and Mary Lewis Library.
