All course request forms should be returned by May 12.
FROM THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT The Marshall Music Department is presenting their Spring Concert series. Make your plans now to attend and support our talented musicians. Monday, May 12 will showcase our choir students. The final concert in the spring series will be on Thursday, May 15, and will feature all of the band groups. Tickets can be purchased at the door and a $3 ticket is good for all the concerts. All Marshall students are admitted free of charge.
Grades 5-8 choir members should wear nice spring dress clothes appropriate for a concert. The guys are encouraged to wear dress pants, dress shoes, dress shirt and tie. Please no jeans, t-shirts or girls in short mini-skirts.
6th and 7/8th grade band members should meet in the choir room at 6:30 p.m. to tune and warm up. The dress is as follows: Girls: White shirt or blouse, black skirt (should be below knees) or black pants and dark colored shoes. Boys: White shirt, black pants, dark shoes, dark ties.
On Thursday, May 15, the music boosters will host another California Burger Feed prior to the spring band concert. For $5, treat yourself to a California burger, chips, pop and desert in the gym foyer and chapel from 3:00 – 6:45 p.m.
FROM THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT The annual Athletic Banquet will be on Wednesday, May 21. If your son or daughter earned a varsity letter in athletics, you will be receiving an invitation in the mail soon. Save the date and watch your mailboxes.
The 16th Annual Athletic Department Golf Outing will be held Monday, June 23, at Ridgeview Country Club. Look for a flyer coming home soon.
FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE Meningococcal disease (meningitis) is a rare, but possibly deadly, bacterial infection that can cause inflammation of the meninges – the membranes around the brain and spinal cord. It can also cause a severe blood infection.
Meningococcal bacteria are transmitted via air droplets or direct contact. Symptoms include high fever, headache, a very stiff neck, confusion, nausea, sensitivity to light, vomiting, and exhaustion. It tends to progress very quickly.
Approximately 2600 people get meningococcal disease in the U.S. each year, with 30% occurring in teenagers and college students. Despite the relatively small number of cases, The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends immunization for all adolescents 11-18 years of age.
The vaccine is recommended because of the higher death rate among the teenagers and college students who do contract the disease, almost one-out-of-four cases. The illness can also cause long-term disabilities. There are several different strains of the virus, but the vaccine may prevent up to 83% of cases. If your teenager has not been vaccinated, I encourage you to discuss this with your physician and to consider immunization.
