July 2, 2007. Finally, I’ve arrived. With both feet firmly planted on the ground, I take my first opportunity to look around. Hard to miss are the breathtaking views of the Lake, the warm greetings from the Duluthians – hellos in the grocery store, hands extended at church service, smiles exchanged on the Lakewalk – the spectacular trails, and moon rises on the Lake. Each day brings new introductions.
As I begin my tenure as the new Head of Marshall School, I reflect on my decision to join this community. Always an adventurer at heart, I find that I am in the right place at the right time. My work and passion is education, and I am delighted to be joining this community as it lays plans for a strong educational future for its children. In the days and months ahead, it is my sincere hope to meet many people who share this same passion for education and youth. Together, it is our job to provide excellent educational choices for students and deliver on our promises.
As a partner in the education of Duluth’s children, I am committed to cultivating:
- Opportunities for self-discovery
- Strong reading and writing skills
- A sound foundation for analytical problem-solving
- And finally, a moral compass that will guide our youth as future global citizens.
I am here and gathering momentum. Through my summer activities at Marshall and in the greater community, I will find the good energy I am looking for both in my own school and beyond. Thank you for your warm welcome. In turn, I extend myself to you, and look forward to meeting you as I embark on this new journey. I invite you to learn more
about Marshall School and welcome your questions.
Most Sincerely,

Barbara A. Brueggemann
Head
of School
