Marshall School

With an expectation that all Marshall graduates will attend four-year colleges and universities, Marshall’s college counseling program is designed to provide students and their families with an organized and comprehensive process for exploring post-secondary options. The process is highly personalized because the primary goal of our college guidance process is to assist students in finding colleges that best fit their needs and interests.

Marshall’s college counselor meets individually with students during their junior year to identify personal, academic, and co-curricular strengths and interests, to review past achievements, and to formulate long-term goals for college and beyond. Active advising regarding standardized testing, visits to college campuses, and the application process follow.

Marshall has a strong reputation among colleges and universities throughout the United States. Representatives from numerous colleges and universities personally visit with our students annually to provide information about their respective schools.

Register for the ACT on the web at www.actstudent.org and pay by VISA or MasterCard.  After you create your record, you can take up to 72 hours to complete and submit it to ACT.  You will receive your admission ticket before the test date.  The cost is $30.00 for the ACT or $44.50 for the ACT Plus Writing.  The late fee is an additional $19.00.  Students may view an unofficial report of their test date scores on the Web free of charge.

According to The College Board, the best way to register for the SAT is online at www.collegeboard.com.  If you register by U.S. mail, you can check that your registration was received and processed by going to www.collegeboard.com , signing in to “My Organizer” (or creating a new account if you are a new user), and clicking on “See SAT Status.”  Your test status will show up onscreen.  If your test status is not “registered,” e-mail the College Board at sat@info.collegeboard.org (preferred) or call them at (609) 771-7600.  The cost for the New SAT Reasoning Test (includes Writing) is $43.0; the late fee is an additional $22.00.  Students may view an unofficial report of their test date scores on the Web free of charge.

Marshall’s School Code is 240640.  Be sure to use this code when registering for both tests in order for the results to be sent to the Marshall School College Guidance Office.

Web Instructions or paper applications for both tests are available in the College Guidance Office.

ACT and SAT Test Prep Software

Marshall has ACT and SAT test prep programs.  Tapes and workbooks are available for checkout from the College Guidance Office.

Marshall School encourages students to take the writing portions of the ACT and SAT.  Many colleges require the writing portion, including the University of MN system.

2008 Senior Student/Parents:

  • Admission Status:  Keep the College Counseling Office informed regarding your admission status with your colleges and which college you plan to attend, after you make that decision. We're eager to hear your decisions.
  • Scholarships:  Update College Counseling on any scholarship awards from college or non-college sources.

    • Notify in writing other colleges offering you admission; withdraw and express your thanks for their offer.
    • Keeping colleges abreast of your plans might enable those colleges to admit someone else from a waitlist.
  • Graduation Requirements:  Stay focused on everything required before graduation.
    • Required course credits- Make sure to complete any IS coursework ASAP.  Independent Study coursework must be completed by May 1st.
    • Community Service Hours- Are you done? Check with Lynn MacLean.
  • Almost all applications to colleges should have been filled out and mailed.  Check with each college regarding your application status if you have not had a response yet.
