Inherent in
Marshalls mission statement and operating principles is
the belief in educating qualified students of diverse socioeconomic
backgrounds. The Marshall Board of Trustees endorses the goal
of assisting students who have the academic ability, but not
the economic means, to pay for an independent, college-preparatory
education.
While the responsibility
for financing a students education lies solely with
the students family, we recognize that an independent
school education is a major investment and one which often
stretches a familys resources.
To assist families
in financing a Marshall education, Marshall offers a number
of affordability programs: monthly payment plans, tuition
insurance, loan programs, and need-based financial aid.
PAYMENT
OPTIONS FOR ALL FAMILIES
The various
payment plans, tuition insurance, and loan programs are available
to all families regardless of financial need.
Ten-Month
Payment Plans
In addition
to a semester payment plan, Marshall offers a ten-month payment
plan to all families for a nominal fee to cover the cost of
billing.
Tuition
Insurance
Marshall offers
a plan that allows parents to purchase tuition insurance for
a nominal fee. If, for any reason, a student withdraws from
Marshall during the course of the academic year, both parents
and the school would be assured the continuation of tuition
payments.
Achiever
Loan
The Achiever
Loan (Key Education Resources) is a low-cost program for parents
who prefer a low monthly payment. The benefits of the Achiever
Loan repayment terms include:
The Achiever
Loan is a variable rate loan. Brochures detailing the plan
are available from the Business Office.
Local
Banks
Families may
explore loan opportunities through their local bank.
Credit
Card
Parents may
pay tuition with MasterCard or Visa.
FINANCIAL
AID FOR FAMILIES WITH DOCUMENTED NEED
Marshall School
is committed to providing a quality education to all students
regardless of ability to pay. Marshalls financial aid
program is designed to bridge the gap between tuition costs
and what a family can reasonably expect to contribute toward
their students education. Our resources are limited,
and preference is given to those families who apply early.
The Marshall
financial aid program is funded through scholarship endowments
and annual giving. For the 2006-07 school year, Marshall awarded
over $500,000 in financial aid to more than a quarter of the student
body.
Frequently
Asked Questions Regarding Financial Aid
 |
Does
Marshall offer merit scholarships?
No.
All financial aid is awarded on the basis of demonstrated
need, not upon academic, athletic or other merit.
|
 |
How
is financial aid awarded?
Financial
aid is awarded to families according to their level
of need as determined by Marshalls Financial
Aid Committee using the standardized calculation derived
by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid
(SSS), a national service.
|
 |
How
do families apply for financial aid?
To
apply, parents complete a Parents Financial
Statement (PFS) and mail it along with the appropriate
fee to SSS. This system considers gross taxable and
nontaxable income, assets, liabilities, family size
and the number of students in tuition charging schools
or colleges. After an allowance for basic necessities
and required taxes, the remaining funds are considered
available for education on a sliding scale. The more
a family earns, the greater the expected contribution.
|
 |
Will
applying for financial aid affect my childs
chances for admission?
No.
Students are admitted to Marshall based on academic
ability not on financial resources. Admission decisions
are made separately from financial aid decisions.
|
 |
When
and how should we apply for aid?
Families
should call the Admission Office to request a financial
aid application form. Priority is given to those families
who complete and return the applications to SSS by
March 15.
|
 |
I
am not sure if our family will qualify for financial
aid. Is it worth applying?
If
you are unsure whether or not you will qualify, you
may contact the Director of Admissions for advice.
Since many financial factors enter into the determination
of financial aid, it is usually best to apply.
|
 |
Will
my childs financial aid award change from year
to year? What if my finances change?
Financial
aid is recalculated each year using current information.
If there is little or no change in family financial
circumstances, a family can expect that grants will
be renewed at the same level, bearing in mind that
any tuition increase will be shared between the family
and Marshall.
|
 |
When
will we be notified if we have received an award?
Returning
Marshall students will be notified in May. New students
will be notified of their awards after acceptance
to the school.
|
 |
Does
Marshall offer full financial aid?
Because
of limited funds, Marshall is not able to offer full
financial aid to families. Every effort is made to
meet the need of families, but it is expected that
parents contribute something to tuition.
|
 |
How
confidential is the information on the application?
All
applications for financial aid are held in the strictest
confidence. Only the Director of Admissions and members
of the Financial Aid Committee review the records.
|
 |
What
happens in cases where parents are divorced or separated?
In
cases of divorce or separation, Marshall requires
both natural parents to apply for financial aid. The
parent with whom the child normally lives files the
standard PFS with SSS, while the other parent files
a different form directly with Marshall School.
